Infection control and prevention are the critical factors in defending against COVID-19. Adequate infection control and prevention relies heavily on front line staff education and understanding of best practices. Moving forward, visitors and volunteers will also need to understand how to help keep our residents safe.
CMS has heightened emphasis by performing infection control focused surveys and attaching receipt of State CARES Act funding to their completion. States will be required to continue to perform Infection Control focused surveys of 20% of nursing homes in their states to receive additional funding.
